Local Area Information

Brightlingsea is located on the unspoilt North-East Essex coast about 60 miles from London. A quiet town with much of historical interest, it's surrounded by classic Essex mudflats and marshes, many of which are Sites od Special Scientific Interest. Its a great place for walking,birdwatching and watersports.The town was a busy fishing port for many years and you can still see fishing smacks and Thames barges racing in the annual autumn match. All Saints Church which is at the top of the hill as you enter the town, is lined with tiles commemorating Brightlingsea residents who have died at sea- mainly fishermen though there are some from the Titanic and famous warship. They are well worth a look.
