Local Area Information

Nerja is a small resort (population around 15,000) located on the quiet side of the Costa del Sol. The town caters fully for visitors with excellent tapas bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. At the same time Nerja has also managed to maintain its original Spanish character. Local by-laws have prevented high-rise developments to ensure tourists can experience the real Spain.

The old town of Nerja is characterised by narrow winding streets and traditional white houses. At the historic centre is the Balcón de Europa
which provides a viewing point above the sea.

The area is lined with palm trees and is often the focal point for festivals and processions.
